Programma Orientación Moral (POM) is a civil society organization aimed at promoting the implementation of ethical principles and moral values in school communities. POM is based in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the largest city of Bolivia. POM was founded in 1999, following a troubling news item in the press, which revealed that the Bolivian state did not have the human and economic resources needed to provide moral education in the country. This situation made Rocky and Joske Malloy, a missionary couple from America, decide to take up the challenge of developing a way to provide ethical and moral training in school communities.
WSN and POM cooperate on a joint education program aimed at reducing school drop-out by constructing classrooms and kindergartens, providing text books for moral education, and training teachers and parents on how to promote ethical principles and moral values among their students and children. Expected results include a reduction in juvenile delinquency, early pregnancy, alcoholism, drug addiction, domestic violence, and other social problems.
The beneficiaries of this program are 2.500 rural children aged 4 to 18.
