|2014 - 2017||300 children|
When in 1940 a street preacher in New York led George Georgakis to Christ, he joined with Nicholas Lambrides to establish the American Mission to the Greeks, now known as AMG International. AMG International is a Christian missionary agency ministering in over 30 countries of the world, including Guatemala. Recognizing that people in physical need are often not interested in the gospel unless their basic needs are also cared for, AMG Guatemala seeks to touch the lives and hearts of those in need by ministering to them on a physical and spiritual level.
WSN supports the construction of a complex for after-school care. AMG will use this building to provide primary school children with midday meals, helps them with their homework and reinforces the things they learn at school. This will improve their learning outcomes, reduce drop-out and enhance their opportunities for secondary education. It will also reduce their vulnerability to crime, drugs, and other anti-social behavior.
The beneficiaries of this program are about 300 children living at the outskirts of Quetzaltenango, the second-largest city of Guatemala. There are many families here, who have migrated to the city for work. The children supported by AMG all attend public school.
